The wife of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who tragically died by suicide at his Chandigarh home on October 7, has raised serious allegations against high-ranking police officials. In a detailed letter to the Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, she claims that no FIR has been registered despite her husband leaving behind an 8-page suicide note outlining harassment and mental torture.
Allegations of Harassment and High-Level Influence
In her letter, Kumar’s wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, stated that the Chandigarh Police have ignored critical details about the powerful officials allegedly responsible for her husband’s harassment. She wrote:
“The reason for no action being taken is that the powerful high-ranking officials of Haryana Police and Administration are accused in the case and they are influencing the Chandigarh Police.”
She further warned that these officials might attempt to malign her or implicate her professionally, emphasizing the need for immediate and impartial investigation.
Tragic Discovery
Amneet, who was on official duty in Japan at the time, recounted her frantic attempts to reach her husband after receiving his suicide note and will. She called him 15 times, and when there was no response, she contacted their young daughter to check on him. Upon rushing home, she found her husband’s lifeless body on a recliner in the basement.
Demands for Justice and Protection
In her letter to the Chief Minister, Amneet demanded:
Immediate registration of an FIR against the officials accused of abetment of suicide
Suspension of the implicated officers to prevent interference with the investigation
Protection for her family, citing threats and harassment from those responsible
She also highlighted that her husband had faced caste-based discrimination, referencing complaints he had made during his career, which were also mentioned in his suicide note.
Previous Complaints
Earlier, Amneet wrote to the Station House Officer (SHO) in Chandigarh, seeking an FIR against Haryana’s Director General of Police, Shatrujeet Singh Kapur, among others. In this letter, she detailed the discrimination and harassment endured by her husband, reinforcing her call for justice and accountability.
Conclusion:The case has raised serious concerns about accountability within the Haryana Police and the need for prompt, transparent action. The family’s allegations underscore the importance of protecting whistleblowers and ensuring investigations are free from political or administrative influence.
